5th August 2008, 15:07NICE Report
NICE have released their Final Appraisal Determination after much deliberation about Cochlear Implants. We are delighted that it now recommends Unilateral implantation for those who do not benefit from hearing aids and simultaneous bilateral implantation for children and adults who are blind. This is a tremendous step forward; we are delighted that NICE has listened to the responses of The Ear Foundation and other voluntary bodies about the benefits bilateral implants bring. Subject to any appeal by consultees, publication of the final guidance is expected at the end of September.
