National Deaf Children's Society
London, UK
Susan Daniels is the Chief Executive of the National Deaf Children's Society, (NDCS) which is the leading organisation in the UK working directly with all deaf children and their families.
She joined the Society in June 1992 and has been responsible for developing the Society's capacity to reach more families and expanding its services as well as its policy and campaigning brief. The introduction of New Born Hearing Screening has been the result of a hugely successful NDCS campaign. In addition, Susan has led the negotiations with a small charity for deaf young people - Friends for Young Deaf People, which has led to a successful partnership which resulted in a full merger. The launch of the International Deaf Children's Society (IDCS) took place in mid 2003, with the appointment of its first In-Country Manager in India last October, and the launch of a global funding programme earlier this year.
In 2003 Susan was appointed as a Commissioner of the Disability Rights Commission.
Susan is a qualified teacher of the deaf and has been a lecturer in further and higher education at the City Lit Centre for Deaf People in London, and was previously the Head of Education, Employment, Training and latterly Head of Policy & Research at the RNID before joining the NDCS.
