Organisation Details

The Spanish Confederation of Parents and Friends of the Deaf – FIAPAS, established in 1978, is a non for profit organisation, with 41 local and regional associations all over Spain

The main goal of FIAPAS is to defend and represent, at national and international level, the rights and interests of the hearing impaired people and their families, face to Society, Administration, and other public and private institutions.

In order to achieve this goal, FIAPAS has five priority areas of activities: support and attention to families with hearing impaired children, health (deafness early detection, diagnosis and treatment), education of hearing-impaired children, access to ordinary labour market and accessibility in all the fields

In these twenty seven years, FIAPAS became a leading organisation within the disability associative movement where has a double role:

  • to represent parents with hearing impaired children face-to-face public administration, agencies and private and public institutions
  • to carry out activities directed to find adequate solutions for the needs of the hearing impaired people

At national level, FIAPAS is a founding member and Vice President of the Spanish Committee for Disabled People (CERMI) where more than 3.5 million disabled people and their families are represented. At European level, FIAPAS is a founding member and General Secretary of the European Federation of Parents of Hearing Impaired Children (FEPEDA)
