Organisation Details

The European Federation of Parents of Hearing Impaired Children, FEPEDA was founded in 1991. The members of FEPEDA are national European parent organisations for hearing impaired children. It is a non-profit organisation with 18 full members. The goal of the organisation is to bring together the national associations of parents of hearing impaired children and to encourage co operation, friendship and exchange of information and experiences and also to improve the quality of life of our children, young people and their families. When talking about hearing-impaired children we include deaf, deafened, hard of hearing, deaf-blind as well as any other kind of hearing impairment with or without other impairments.

FEPEDA recognises the special needs and role of families with hearing impaired children. It commits itself to humane and democratic principles, recognises all possible choices in education and communication and encourages member organisations to co-operate in a spirit of tolerance and understanding.

FEPEDA follows closely the development of the status of hearing impaired children in Europe and also aims to influence on the decision-making that concerns our children. Since 1997 FEPEDA has adopted several declarations concerning parents’ rights, Cochlear Implants, neo-natal hearing screening, television broadcasting and telecommunications for deaf and hearing-impaired children.
