EKLVL was founded in 1991; the organization unites more than 600 parents all over Estonia, who raise deaf or hearing-impaired children. We consider it very important that necessary help and assistance and all sorts of information should reach each and every person and every family, no matter what the means of communication or chosen ways of raising, educating and developing a deaf child are.
In 2002 an Estonian Cochlear Implant Children Support Group was founded within the EKLVL. The CICS Group involves 30 families who have a deaf child with a cochlear implant.
EKLVL’s main activities are training and coaching parents, language and holiday camps for the children, individual counselling (parents, officials, teachers, doctors etc.), liaison of families and governmental institutions, developing international relations etc. We publish an Information Bulletin four times a year and many other smaller publications about deafness and deaf children.
