Founded by parents whose children have cochlear implants, the CICS Group provides contact, information and support for families whose children have cochlear implants and for those who are considering an implant for their child.
The Group links families, either geographically or by special situations, such as specific medical conditions, organises social events and Information Days, circulates a regular newsletter and provides links with other groups. Parents, implanted children, their siblings and other family members enjoy informal events where they can make new friends, share ideas and benefit from one another’s first-hand experience of the issues that surround life with an implanted child. The CICS network provides parents with access to a vital part of the pre and post implantation process – support for parents by parents.
The Group has members at all the U.K. Cochlear Implant Centres, encompassing children using all modes of communication, and every type of cochlear implant currently available in the U.K.
Established in 1993, and registered as a charity in May 2003, CICS is an entirely voluntary group run by parents who recognise that there is no one approach that will suit all children. The Group is independent and relies entirely on donations, grants and fundraising efforts to cover its expenses.
